MAC cosmetics x Archie Comics collaboration!
Now I know I am like the 1000th blogger to post about this but I don’t care. I have been a huge fan and have been collecting Archie Comics since I was a kid. I couldn’t be more excited about this collaboration because it couldn’t be more perfect. The contrasts of Betty and Veronica will make a great collection as Betty is more subtle and soft and Veronica is more bold and wild. I loved their feud over Archie. I used to go to this pawn shop by my elementary school P.S 171 and I’d only pay 50 cents for my Archie Comics and eventually established a small collection. I was a kid when I started collecting them; buying them with my lunch money and would skip meals just to have them. I also would draw Veronica all the time as I was an art student. Most of my Archie Comic collection is from the late 70’s and through the 80’s so they are definitely vintage and not modernized like the new ones you can find at Target or ShopRite. I just have always had a love for the way the characters were illustrated and naturally gravitated to Veronica Lodge’s look even though she wasn’t always nice ;). I was never much of a Betty fan, she was boring to me. Archie was DREAMY and Jughead was hilarious. I have a few Katy Keene books too but was more into the Archie drama lol. Overall, Veronica was my top favorite and still is and Betty just needs to take a back seat lolol ;). Even though Dan Parent has done a wonderful job taking over Archie Comics as illustrator since 1987, it was Bob Montana who was the first to illustrate these wonderful teenage characters and Dan DeCarlo who developed the look in the late 50s early 60s. I actually wrote about Dan DeCarlo two years ago (see the post) and love his sassy illustrations of women. He also created the characters of Josie and the Pussycats, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and Cheryl Blossom. Anyway, Mac cosmetics is now teaming up with Archie Comics and will bring out this wonderfully themed collection very soon. I am so jealous that Mac is previewing the collection in San Diego’s comicon right now. Dan Parent will be there demonstrating his skills while Mac artists give women Betty & Veronica inspired looks.
I am sure this collection will be very pinup and right up my alley. I am so excited and can’t wait to see what Mac has in store for NY!
