V.V by Santiago at the Capicu Cultural Showcase!

My friend Derek Santiago invited me to the Capicu Cultural Showcase last week. The Capicu showcase is a grassroots multicultural producer of poetry and performing arts events in New York City, formed using the philosophies of the most progressive intellectual and artistic movements of the last century in New York City (i.e. The Harlem Renaissance, the Beat Poets & most notably the Nuyorican Movement). They asked Derek to participate at this event by doing a live painting so I came to show my support. I feel very fortunate that his live painting was actually a portrait of me! Derek’s work is nothing short of amazing and graces the walls of people from all over the world. He was actually selling prints at this event. His beautiful bombshell Enchante assisted people who waited in line for a chance to purchase them. This was a great and successful event. I also have to shout out the poets who resided such great poems. Bruja definitely did her thing, her poems were raw, and beautifully spoken. She was definitely one of my favorites of the night. All of the poets did a great job. Check out some photos I took at the event inside!
