MADE NYFW at Milk Studios for THE BLONDS.

IMG_5730This NYFW I was asked to be a part of the MADE Fashion Week Google+ hangouts for The Blonds fashion show and excitingly obliged! I am OBSESSED with The Blonds and their fierce designs of corsetry and their ability to make fashion fun and out of this world. This amazingly talented power couple from NY never fails to put on a great fashion show and I was so glad to attend this one. It literally made my entire NYFW as one of the best shows I have ever seen. For Fall 2013 Phillip and David gave us a KILLER collection inspired by classic Hollywood glamour meets Stanley Kubrick and Alfred Hitchcock with straight jacket fur coats, trench coats adorned with knives, clear rain coats that were dripping with blood-colored diamonds, and screen prints of your favorite killers like Jack Nicholson in “The Shining”. I was completely in awe of this collection and their wasn’t an outfit I didn’t like. The big hair, the red cat-eyes, the printed nails, and the horror made the inner goth in me jump for joy. This show screamed female empowerment and the models looked like glamorous murderers who fancied blood and diamonds. The finale featured Phillipe in a full body blood diamond encrusted body suit that started from his neck to his ankles cinched by his tiny little waist. I don’t think I know a more beautiful man as he glows every time I see him.8470649518_c7b26c0c0a_zphoto by: Cool Hunting Project

I got to see it all, dressed in a perfect gothic galactic ensemble by Falguni and Shane. How fitting! I got a glimpse of the magic back stage before the show and got to see the characters who attended front and center. It was definitely full of exhibitionists who were just as anxious as I was to see the collection brought to life on the runway. After the runway was over I watched and listened as people spoke highly of the show, saying it was fantastic…because it was.. I was glad I got to express my opinion on the Google+ live scream along with my good friend Nubia. It was so much fun and I got to meet so many great people at Milk Studios. I am hoping that I get the opportunity to do it again next NYFW! Continue reading

NYFW 13: Long Tran in KM!

2This fashion week I kept it low-key by only attending just a few events. It feels like last fashion week was just yesterday! Damn, time really does fly..but for people like me, fashion week is every week. I don’t feel like I need a specific week during the year to allow myself to wear my craziest pieces, I just wear them anyway. Just a few days ago, I left work early to attend the Long Tran show in a Karen Millen dress. It wasn’t anything out of this world on the hanger but after trying it on the print and design of this dress spoke to me in volumes. It was only right that I add a pinch of darkness to it by sporting a sleek bun and a smokey eye. I love channeling my inner goth girl when I am not doing my signature pinup looks. That’s the beauty of not limiting yourself when it comes to fashion, your creativity is endless and you can become a chameleon. Speaking of reptiles ;) …The print on my dress reminds me of crocodiles so I wore it with my vintage patent leather croc belt and Patricia field satchel. I also kept it comfy in some patent leather French Connection pumps. It was the perfect outfit as the theme of the Long Tran show was dark and edgy. The collection really reminded me of Tim Burton and everyone knows how much I LOVE TIM BURTON. There were trench coats/jackets with high collars, bold shoulders that defied gravity, and masks that turned models into monsters. I was glad to attend and show my support and had a fun time. Winter’s black.

IMG_1788Winter hasn’t been so bad this year (knocks on wood) so I don’t mind braving the cold in a dress every now and then with some stockings to keep the stems warm. However, I can’t shake off the fact that all I wear is black during this cold season. Hell, I don’t even want to dress up as I normally do. Part of me wishes I could just walk around in a snuggie all day and be invisible so no one would notice lol. The other part of me can’t go even 2 days without being creative with my clothes. Apparently, playing dress up never gets old for some of us folk.

Anyway, on this day I was drenched in Karen Millen. I wore my favorite dress and coat from her recent collection. The dress sports an awesome plaid print and an abstract peplum/bust and the pony coat has a black on black houndstooth print, leather accents, and a belted waist. I am absolutely in love with both of these pieces so I wore them together. The dress makes me feel sassy while the coat keeps me warm and stylish in this weather. I cannot tell you how pleased I am with this brand. Karen Millen dresses are tailored to PERFECTION and I have been a major fan since I discovered the store on Prince Street 5 years ago. Every KM dress is a statement piece and I almost feel terrible for letting you all know my best kept secret lol. To compliment both pieces I wore some leather gloves, a Betsey Johnson satchel, back seam hosiery, my favorite vintage hat, and my Agent Provocateur patent leather pumps. Not too shabby for a cold day in brick city ;) . Continue reading

Film Noir Star.

IMG_0244I haven’t done an outfit post in a while and the irony is that I have worn really great outfits but have been too busy to document them. Luckily on this casual day, I finally took the time to take some shots of what I wore thanks to my good friend Queena. This outfit wasn’t anything crazy but I really love my new vintage film noir print button down. I collect vintage button-down blouses that have unique prints and this one has got to be one of my favorites of my collection. The print features a Film Noir collage of great vintage films like The Gilded Lily, The Second Hour, Devil May Care, The Scarlet Empress, and more!. You can find some of my favorite classic Hollywood influences like Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Marlene Dietrich, and Claudette Colbert on this amazing blouse and that makes me love it even more. For $20 on ebay, this is definitely a steal and something I will treasure forever as you don’t really find tops like this anymore. I wore mine with Levi’s jeans, a simple brown belt, a cork clutch, and my cork Christian Louboutin Pigalles. I also added my favorite vintage cat eye glasses and my new vintage earrings from D&J Vintage. Simple and chic for a day of work and play. Continue reading

Winter’s coming but it feels like Spring <3

It has been quite a while since I have done an outfit post but I have been way too busy lately, so busy that I haven’t had much time to even post at all. Alas I was off today for Thanksgiving and decided to wear a dress I recently found at a thrift store that my mom ended up taking pics of while we were taking a stroll around my old neighborhood. I have been dying to wear this wool plaid dress. It reminds me of something Vivian Westwood would create but it is actually by Kal Kaur Rai. I couldn’t believe I found such a statement piece here at a local thrift store in the Bronx but I am not complaining. It only cost me $7.50! I probably should have saved it for fashion week but decided every week is fashion week in my life, I am sure I will cook something up when it’s time to cross that bridge. Anyway, it was beautiful outside. The leaves were falling from the trees but it felt like the beginning of spring. I was able to walk around without my jacket for most of the day until the evening when the sun started to set. I wanted to channel the punk rock style of the 70s with a 50s touch. I love to clash eras and create outfits that work. Leather, plaid, and studs are all signature staples of punk rock style and since my dress reminded me of the queen of punk fashion Vivian Westwood, it felt oh-so-right to pair it with my Christian Louboutin spiked pumps, Agent Provocateur gloves, and Betsey Johnson studded purse. I also wore cuban heel hosiery by Leg Avenue. All in all, It was an all around win and if it got too cold, I carried my scape by Theresa Dapra and my buckle boots by Steve Madden. I always like to carry an extra pair of shoes. My friends make fun of me because they say I change from heels to heels lol. I had to bring my boots because my shoes were open toe and we all know those type of shoes are meant for spring/summer but I didn’t care. Cheers to being fashionable and comfortable on a beautiful day like this one. Continue reading

Good as gold.

It’s not everyday when you finish work early and get to enjoy the beautiful weather outside in the midst of the Fall. I wanted to utilize the rest of my day but stay local as I was kind of tired so I linked up with my best friend who lives near by and we roamed around my neighborhood with my little man Rex. It was a super casual day, nothing too crazy as far as fashion goes but I made sure to wear some regal key statement pieces that spoke louder than my exhaustion. When I lack the energy to be glamorous, I go for the “boyfriend look”. I was comfortable and chic in my Ann Taylor blazer, silk vintage blouse, cuffed American Apparel jeans, and my spectators but it was my Angela and Roi Purse that served as my inspiration. It’s crazy how a purse can inspire an entire outfit but this was no ordinary purse. I am absolutely obsessed with it along with the rest of the bags on their site. It has all of my favorite ingredients; bold black and white stripes, gold chain links, leather contrasts, and could be worn as a clutch or a purse. Ironically, my silk blouse was also full of my favorite ingredients so they both made quite a pair. To finish my look I threw on my new Bulova watch and my gold stilleto necklace. It was the perfect casual but regal outfit for discovering a beautiful art deco courthouse. It’s allll in the details :) .

Comicon 2012!

I have had my hands full with work within the past few weeks, so I almost didn’t even make it to Comicon this year. Low and behold, I still found a way and attended this massive event with my beau. I only spent a little over 2 hours there before I was off to work but I had such a blast. I’ve been a gamer and comic collector since I was a kid and it has yet to rub off. I wish I could have dressed up but I didn’t have time to commit to a costume so I went in a very cool Warhol inspired Marilyn Monroe get-up by Betsey Johnson. I couldn’t even concentrate while I was there, enamored by all of the booths full of my favorite video game and comic book characters. This convention gets bigger and bigger every year so the only thing I really had an issue with was how PACKED it was to the point that it was hard to even walk at times. I still managed to get around and found lots of great goodies I got to take home with me. I found an awesome vintage comic from the 50′s, 3 big giant authentic vintage posters, and an autographed pinup calendar page. I took endless photos of my favorite comic girls like Vampirella, Wonder Woman, Veronica from Archie Comics, and more. I was sad I didn’t get to see any Fathom, Soul Fire, or Witchblade booths but I can see them next year. Here are some photos of everything that caught my attention at this amazing convention. Camo season.

It is CAMO season people! I was especially excited to bust out mine the other day because it is one of the few reasons why I can deal with this cold weather we are about to get hit with. I absolutely love camo prints, fur, leather, and being able to wear cool scarves and hats this time around. I always say I want to live on a tropical island but when I really think about it, I’d miss being able to wear of all my Fall & Winter things. Anyway, on this day I decided to take a walk around my neighborhood and visited some thrift shops before I was off to meet up with my best bud Santiago. My best friend and I love to go on random adventures to beautiful and historic places in or around the city. We always have a great time just wondering around discovering places we didn’t even know existed. I didn’t know there were so many beautiful places to go here in the Bronx until my bestie and historian showed me around. On this day we went to visit a waterfall I used to go to when I was a teen followed by a cool chill dinner at a great sushi spot we found while driving around. This is a small post because I didn’t have my camera with me but you can see more details of my outfit and my day via my iphone inside. Continue reading

Style before sunset.

New York is getting colder and the sun is setting faster and all we can really do is salvage the last of this great weather we have been having. Two days ago it was 80 degrees and my friend Ingrid and I didn’t want to waste it so we went for a walk around the city looking and feeling colorful as ever. I was waiting for a day like this to wear my new favorite How Very Dare crop top and skirt. I absolutely love the Romance in the Air print and the assortment of my favorite colors, teal, orange, and infrared. I was a little wild card walking around the city in my leucite infrared stripper pumps, my leather jacket, and my vintage costume jewelry. I always have to add a touch of vintage to my outfits and Ingrid did the same in her AMAZING vintage Playboy shades. She looked gorgeous in a vintage plaid top, a jean pencil skirt, and her vintage belt and gold jewerly. I also love how she sported some very Carmen Miranda green wedges. We both were a colorful pair and had such a great time visiting shops followed by lunch at one of our favorite spots, Cafe Habana. Check out more photos and details of our outfits inside. Old English Charm.

So I took a few days off from blogging. Most of you who follow me know that I post every 2 days or so and try to keep a consistent flow of content going on my blog. I am always coming up with new and fun stuff to share with you all but came to a halt just the other day when, for the first time in a long time, I started to question whether my 5+ years of effort into this blog was really getting the recognition it deserved. I started questioning was it worth continuing if the blog world is rapidly changing into some retarded commercial popularity contest of privileged snobs who only wear labels? It seems the only time rockabilly style is trending is when Prada comes out with a collection inspired by the 50′s. Though I love Prada, and I loved that SS12 collection, it is sad that something has to become a trend to be “cool”. Well, obviously that isn’t going to stop me from dressing this way, I just think the whole thing is pretty ironic which is what everyone is trying to be these days.

Anyway, I’ve got my mojo back and my head on straight and my discouragement was just an addition to the past few months that have been, contrary to popular belief, very difficult. Sometimes you have to step away from all of this social media stuff and just live life as if it never existed. I wasn’t away for too long but it was nice just taking time to myself to regroup, recharge, and come back to blogging with a better state of mind. I do have pride so it has been hard to say that it hasn’t been all cookies and cream for me (great now I want sweets) this year but I am still grateful for all of the good things, because there were and still many good things ahead. I just have to stay focused and keep my eye on the prize because that is how I stay inspired and motivated.

So what do you do when mainstream fashion and culture under-stimulates you? You find inspiration elsewhere.

I have been checking out lots of WWD street style posts on tumblr of Milan Fashion week and maybe it’s just me but..it seems that fashion over seas is less contrived. After attending a few shows this NYFW, it just seems people were over-dressing to get their picture taken. It just didn’t seem authentic especially after seeing a guy dressed as a yellow M&M and decorated as an angry bird. Yet, I was on Buzzfeed in their freak or chic post in which I replied “I am both, thank you :)because in the end, at least what I wore was authentic to who I am. I just think it is important to be authentic, to really be yourself. I know we hear it all the time but it doesn’t mean just doing what you want, it’s having an unbiased unpretentious opinion (just like this post is of my own opinion). I think most people are afraid that there style or personality might offend those who have a certain standard but there is nothing offensive about being you, if anything you are more respected.

Anyway. Inspired by the beautiful Victorian era of France, the bold plaid of the British, and the charm of Milan in the 1950′s..I wore a charming little outfit for a morning of shooting followed by a walk in the park. The weather is perfect at the cusp of Summer and Fall for wool, cashmere, and Autumn hues and I was ready to embrace it all. Continue reading
