My dream is to influence and inspire women all over the world to become exhibitionists of their own personal self-expression, to be confident, independent, self-sufficient, educated, and rebellious to our modern society’s standards. I want to bring back the essence of mid-century women; the non-body conscious, curvaceous, well-groomed, and fashionable women who roamed the streets of New York City dressed for no occasion at all but for the sake of j u s t b e i n g f a b u l o u s. I have spent many years of my life studying old films, photographs, books, and anything else related to the 1920s, 50s, and 60s just to perfect my own self expression and am still learning new things every day. Many of you have been begging me for months, years even, to post my tips and tutorials on hair, makeup, and anything else related to beauty. Finally, I have set up a separate section of my blog to dish out all of my beauty secrets and how-to’s for all of you girls who love to get dolled up. Stay tuned for videos, instructions, and more. And For some extra added help I will also post referrals of books/videos I have read or come across that have helped me become the pinup I am today.
My 1960′s Look!
Being passionate about the rockabilly culture has sparked my creativity so much throughout the years that I have mastered many mid-century styles. Pompadours, victory rolls, soft saves, and pin curls used to take me hours and now with the help of my books and my half-wigs I have figured out how to manipulate my hair and take short cuts while I am at it. I am still learning but am excited to show you my tips and tricks to make your life a hell of a lot easier.
My Hair Care Regime.
- I shampoo my entire head but I only condition the ends of my hair starting from the end of my scalp.
- I wash my hair twice a week as it doesn’t get oily quickly. For oily hair invest in dry shampoo and condition your ends lightly.
- I do not blow dry my hair as I feel it fries and damages it. If you use a straightener or a curling iron you can reap the same results.
- I rarely put products in my hair like gel or hair spray but if I do they usually don’t contain alcohol. Try using moose as it is more flexible and easy to wash out.
- I cut my hair once every six months.
- I color my hair every 2 months with over-the-counter Loreal Feria box dyes. It dyes your hair without changing the texture.
- Use BioSilk serum for damaged overly processed hair. It is a leave-in shine conditioner that will leave your hair smooth and flawless looking. Just a tear drop is all you need. It worked wonders for my hair but make sure you are not allergic to silicone.
- All of my hot tools are ceramic. I recommend ceramic because it runs smoothly through your hair and causes less damage than regular flat irons. If your hair burns easily try using a cooler setting, your hair doesn’t have to burn to hold a curl or to be straight.
My Nail Regime.
- Having a broken nail ruins my entire day and outfit. I know, I am a perfectionist. I run to the salon right away. You should do the same because having a missing nail is kinda weird looking.
- You will never catch me with chipped nail polish. Don’t do it. Looks really bad.
- Square, or duck feet nails are totally not my thing. Square is ok but I like cat claws and they work with my style.
- For cat claws tell your nail lady to file your nails round to a point.
- Duck feet nails should just never happen. Period.
- Dirty nails should just never happen. Period.
- Your toes don’t always have to match your finger nails but I try to have mine match all the time.
- Your toe nails shouldnt look like tips, make sure you cut them down so they don’t rip through the front of your shoes.
I am a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to dressing up everyday and have these rules that I have bestowed upon myself that I abide by religiously. You don’t necessarily have to agree to any of them as this is just my opinion in regards to my own personal style. I believe everything has to fit the aesthetic of the look you are going for. If I want to look like a pirate, wearing a pink tutu isn’t going to work. If I want to look like Cleopatra, wearing a gingham dress won’t do. You have to have the idea and execute accordingly. It doesn’t have to be technical, have fun with it. Use your imagination and let it flourish.
My Wardrobe Regime.
- Your hair + makeup must always fit the aesthetic of your outfit. Crinkled gel curls, blue eyeshadow, and orange lips with a classic elegant 1950s pink dress will never work and will kill your outfit. You also can’t wear a fluffy scrunchie with a gown. That’s just blasphemy.
- Make sure your nails are done. Chipped nails are a no-no. Your nails don’t always have to match your outfit as far as color but try to make a note of how it coincides with your outfit. Because of this I try to always use neutral colors on my nails because they go with everything.
- If you are short try not to wear T-strap heels or anything with an ankle strap as it makes you appear shorter unless, of course, you are wearing a mini skirt or shorts.
- Do not wear a bubble coat with a beautiful dress, it just looks all sorts of wrong.
- Wear the right undergarments, your spanx should never show. Try to get seamless underwear if you do not like thongs to avoid panty lines. Also wear the right size bra, many places offer fittings that will help you find your right size. Muffin boob is not sexy.
- I know we all hate getting runs in our hosiery, they are cool if you are in a goth inspired outfit, not in a pretty dress. Just take them off and go bare or use clear nail polish so the hole doesn’t grow.
- Too much jewelry and accessories is overkill, accessorize in moderation.
- I know it’s a pain to visit your shoe repair but make sure your heels are in tact and not running on the nail.
- If you have a short torso try to stay away from high-waisted anything, to accentuate your torso go with low-rise as long as you don’t have plumbers crack in them.
- Moth balls, stains, holes, or any other damage to your clothing is only acceptable in certain circumstances like the grunge look, but if it wasn’t made that way, throw it away or take it to your tailor. To clear moth balls off of your clothing take a razor and delicately shave them off.

Love all the tips you gave! Just something for the suggestion box: when putting concealer on your eyes (especially under) spread it with the tip of your fingers from the outside of your eyes to in. That way you minimize the chances of getting concealer wrinkles under your beautiful eyes.

you are adorable. you keep it real, stay simple, and it was genuinely fun and easy to follow along. only question: the eyeliner:: what kind of tip is it? i have small, deep set eyes but a fairly strong brow like you, so i probably couldn’t do the shadow but really intend on one day soon working w/the cat eye—been longing to get it right for ages. gracias!
